Here is a wine with generous fruit, well balanced oak treatment and is typical of top quality Auatralian Cabernet Sauvignon. The only surprise is the price. The wine is quite deep dark red with a little purple around the rim, indicating its youth. The nose is also very youthful with all the primary fruit flavors to the fore. There is an avalanche of juicy fruit characters with cassis, raspberry and plums being the most easily identifiable. In addition to the fruit, there is a strong oak component that manifests itself with a charred, toasty vanilla character. The wine is quite complex and already starting to integrate. There is no doubt the inclusion of 3% Grenache and 8% Shiraz hss added an additional dimension to the wine. Again the fruit concentration is immediately evident on the palate and this combines beautifully with the nutty and toasty oak. There is generosity over the palate and the finish is lengthened with a noticeable grip from tannin. Given the freshness of fruit the wine can certainly be enjoyed now, however those who prefer a softer finish could wait between 3 to 5 years as the tannins will have softened into the fruit by that stage. Best to serve this wine with red meat, either beef or lamb that has been roasted and served with a sauce thatinvolves red wine and a stock reduction. Also the wine could add a little spark to a cheese plate at the conclusion of a meal, matching up well with hard grating cheese and aged cheddar styles. |
