The vintage was warm and dry, ideal to fully ripen this variety in a typically cool climate. Yields have been kept low to ensure that the fruit would be concentrated giving Iain Riggs and his winemaking team plenty to play with.
The bouquet is veritably alive with a mass of fruit, oak and other forest like perfume. The fruit is black cherries and plums with just a hint of strawberries. The oak is spicy. The scent of the forest floor adds real interest to the wine.
Taste the wine, and the juicy nature of the ripe fruit really takes over, leaving the other components merely as supporting players. The finish sees plenty of acid with some softer tannins. Drink the wine either whilst fresh or give it 3 to 5 years bottle age.
