The Great Southern region continues to grow in stature as one of Australia’s premium grape growing region. The bouquet sees plenty of grilled nuts along with some spicy and toasty oak. Underneath there is a layer of fruit flavours with melon and pineapple being the most prominent. There are plenty of different flavors working here and the overall effect is one of lusciousness and complexity. This is quite a rich wine across the palate as it has a creamy texture. It has some added complexity from the malo-lactic character but this is in balance with the other flavors evident in the wine. Indeed balance is the key to this wine with restraint thankfully holding sway in the winery. The finish is dry and gentling warming with some of the alcohol showing through. Matured in new and old French barrique. Whilst I would prefer to drink the wine pretty much around now it has plenty of acid and you can confidently cellar it for 4 to 6 years.
