The most distinctive feature of this superb Clare Valley is the overriding earthy component to the wine. Entirely appropriate as the wine is named after the Goddess of Earth. It is deep and inky in color with the tint running all the way to the rim. The bouquet sees intense blackcurrant and blueberry fruit supported by some charry oak. Underpinning this are the earthy notes that really set this wine apart from other examples of this variety, particularly in the Clare Valley. The palate sees a repeat of these flavors along with some bitter chocolate to add just a little extra to the mix. There are some firm but not aggressive tannins at the back of the palate. The wine will repay patient cellaring of up to 10 years, if you can wait that long. |
