A vibrant intense Chardonnay that jumps out of the glass with wonderful aromas of melon, peach, citrus notes with tropical characters adding even more appeal.
On the palate all of these fruit characters mingle with persistent mineral notes, and pleasing hints of oak, no doubt a sign of that 50% of the oak is new. Great mouthfeel, with lovely rich texture, but shows a tightness of structure and firm but lively acid, capable of giving this wine years to evolve and become even more complex. Jeffrey Grosset has managed to tame the malolactic component so it adds charm without becoming overwhelming. Only 45% of the wine was permitted to go through. Similarly the 11 or so months in barrel appears just enough to marry up to the richness of fruit, with leesy notes adding yet another dimension to the wine. Beautifully balanced.
A wine that will only get better with a few years in bottle. 3 to 6 years. |
