The ripening season was kind in 2000 and this is particularly good news for the Shiraz from Bannockburn. It shows intense perfumed fruit with plums, cherries along with some floral highlights like violets. There is also a meaty, bacon fat aroma that is very pleasant. There is virtually no oak influence, such is the power of the fruit.
The fruit is sweet and juicy on the palate. Underlying meaty notes give the wine a chewy texture. The tannins are certainly there but they are soft and the acid is pronounced and will assist the wines preservation in the cellar. The wine will probably peak at about 6 to 8 years. |
