Robert Parker recognized the uniqueness of the Frankland Estate wines some years back. The ’99 Shiraz continues on the theme beautifully.
Wonderfully intense blackcurrant, plum and blueberry characters mingle with the most exquisite pepper, dry spice, and dusty, earthy notes. This wine could sneak into a line up of serious Crozes Hermitage or Cornas wines and rate highly.
The long sunshine days, slow ripening environment at Frankland produces optimally ripe fruit, that has delivered an extraordinarily complex wine. Layer upon layer of fruit and spice and pepper interplay to provide great drinking pleasure. The oak regime of 50:50 new to old French barrels, adds another dimension.
6 to 8 years in the cellar will give this wine even more class and stature, but don’t wait that long to enjoy. |
