Another blockbuster of a wine from Elderton Estate grown fruit. The dense dark color of the wine makes sense of the dark plum, blackberry, and cassis like characters wafting from the glass. Hints of chocolate, spice and vanillin oak notes add to its attractiveness.
On the palate these elements intensify, with the plum and blackberry dominating. Chocolate, mocha and even dry spices and licorice add to the wines intrigue, all wrapped in an incredible smooth and well balanced package. 18 months in American and French puncheons has allowed the wine to integrate fruit and tannin beautifully. Despite its weight and intensity of flavor, this wine is easy to consume!!
This has at least 6 to 8 years to go before it reaches its peak, but can so easily be consumed now.
Rich dishes such as slow roasted meats or game dishes will be able to stand up to this weighty yet elegant wine.
