The majority of the fruit for this wine is sourced from Bill and Noel Ireland’s “Old Station” Vineyard in the Clare. For this release, we have sourced 37% of the fruit from McLaren Vale, adding further depth to the wine, whilst maintaining its vibrant Grenache character. With 82% Grenache, its not surprising that the nose is dominated by intense raspberry aromas, with hints of pepper and spice. On the palate, the Grenache continues to dominate, but the Shiraz delivers darker plum and blackcurrant flavors, and generous spice, pepper, and earthy tones. The wine has a gorgeous mouthfeel, and the flavors are persistent through to the long finish. This could be my favorite of the 5 vintages now produced. The wine is a baby, and will develop nicely over the next 3 to 5 years. |
