This is the first ever release of Roman’s top Grenache. The fruit actually comes from a plot of vines at the top of the Blewitt Springs vineyard, where yields are 0.5 to 1.0 per acre. Immensely concentrated raspberry and strawberry characters provide the back bone, with chocolate, flinty mineral notes adding to its complexity. Very seductive on the palate, with the richness of the fruit and the multiplicity of ancillary flavors making it wonderfully appealing. The 100% new Burundian baroque regime is apparent, with pleasant cedar and smoke notes. A wine with plenty of time to go, but drinks well now if given the time to breathe and open up. This demands your best decanter. Given its obvious Grenache character, food choices head towards game dishes, although anything with a sweet Asian style twist could work well. |
