This is clearly the best Merlot yet produced by Elderton, and one of the finest in Australia. The bouquet and palate display abundant juicy plum like fruit with an overlay of rose petals and a hint of musk. There is a little bit of vanilla from some new oak. To support this fruity burst, the wine has great presence and viscosity across the mouth. It is quite smooth but also very chewable. You can enjoy the wine now and it makes for very attractive drinking given the mouth filling fruit, but it seems to have the structure to last for a decade. Try it right now with roast duck and cherries and it will be a superb match. |
