It is going to be difficult for critics and consumers alike to believe just how good the wines from the1999 in the Barossa Valley really are. This is simply because they follow in the shadow of the much lauded 1998 vintage.
This wine is a rich dark blood red color with a complex blend of plums, stewed fruit, licorice and spice notes across the bouquet. These flavors are repeated on the palate, complete with a thick and silky texture.
Given the intensity and richness the wine is amazingly soft and approachable as a young wine. It drinks well now but it will age for a very long time, possibly even twenty years. Aged in new and old French barrique.
To help you enjoy the wine even more right now serve it with some creamy and runny white mould cheese. There will be a great match in texture and the cheese will make the wine seem even softer at the finish. |
