Print this Wine         1998 Pikes Reserve Merlot   CLARE VALLEY                 January Release Case Size: 6/750ml Merlot       Deep purple red. Lifted aromas of ripe black cherries, dark chocolate and cedary French oak characters. Quite complex already. Richly flavoured and textured with soft supple tannins married nicely with the barrel characters. Nice concentration of fruit. Another really good Merlot from our Estate vineyards. This wine should develop nicely over an 8-10 year period. The 1998 vintage will be seen as one of our best red wine years in South Australia in the past 25 years. BLEND: 100% Merlot AREA: 100% Clare Valley, South Australia VINEYARD: Pikes Polish Hill River Estate vineyard HARVEST: March 1998 SUGAR AT HARVEST: 13.0-13.5 Baume FERMENTATION: Inoculated with pure yeast culture, 100% Stainless steel, cold soak for 6 days, temperature controlled fermentation 19-28C for 12 days, 20 day post ferment maceration.
