Not content to receive all the accolades for his red wines Roman Bratasiuk has steadily built a fine reputation for his voluptuous and enveloping Chardonnays. The Norton Summit vineyard tends to produce wine that are very rich and fairly forward.
The appearance indicates plenty of time in new oak barrels, as it is a full gold without any green tinges. One long inhalation and you could easily think that you have been transported to Burgundy, particularly in a big warm year. You do not smell the fruit to begin with. The aromas are all the secondary characters, some yeasty notes, creamy, caramel, vanilla and then finally some fig and melon fruit. This is a very complex wine.
At the moment the palate is just superb with all the secondary flavors basically being eclipsed by the fruit. This will be the case for another year or so before the wine tightens up and hibernates for a few years. My advice would be to drink the wine this year or hold onto it for at least 6 years after that.
If you are drinking it young make it the feature with some cheese at the conclusion of a meal. It will match up superbly with white mould cheese, the riper the better. If you would prefer to have it in the middle of the meal match it with poultry as the wine is just a tad too heavy for fish. |
