Judi Cullam and Barrie Smith are now firmly entrenched in the upper echelon of grape growing and winemaking teams in Australia. This is remarkable given the relatively short time they have had their vineyard planted in Western Australia’s Great Southern region. Established in 1988 the vineyards are now mature and producing better and more consistent fruit. This wine has no trouble in standing up to any Riesling with intensity and power only achieved in the finest examples of the variety. Appearance wise the wine shows a medium lemon gold color, without the green tinge of a very young wine. The nose offers great lime and orange character, with underlying dry dusty spices. The palate reflects this, but delivers even more. More accentuated lime and lemon flavors, with roasted nuts and steely acidity. This wine has years ahead of it. At least 5 to 8 years if not more. Ideal with baked white fleshed fish with a citrus based dressing, particularly if a few toasted almonds were sprinkled over the fish. |
