This is the inaugural Release of this wine, named after our young son Benjamin Edward Larchet. All the fruit is nsourced from growers vineyards in Margaret River and Frankland in West Australia. 45% Chardonnay, and the balnce split between Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. I wanted to produce a wine with richness yet vitality, and it seems to deliver all of that and more. The appearance is pale lemon yellow with more than just a hint of pale green at the rim. It is clear and quite brilliant, young and inviting. A most intriguing bouquet greets you with peach and melon from the Chardonnay, and more lifted citrus characters …….a whiff of lemongrass and plenty of citrus blossom and oil scents……………from the Sem and Sav Blanc. The nett effect is a much more intense blended wine than any of the components bottled in isolation. On the palate, this is a full bodied and textured wine here that is quite a surprise given the lifted nature of the bouquet. The wine is mouth-filling yet not heavy. The melon character of the Chardonnay is quite apparent, yet the citrus flavors are also quite prominent. Despite the rich nature across the palate the wine has plenty of crisp acid at the finish. This style suits the fruit driven wine and even extends the aftertaste. Because of this structure the wine will probably age well for several years. It is recommended that you drink the wine young, however, so that you can capture this unique fruit salad wine, when the fruit is at its peak. When it comes to food matching this is a versatile wine. Seafood and Poultry are the best options and the wine would match to all sorts of different dressings and sauces. Citrus scented dressings with seafood and butter based sauces with the poultry would make excellent partners. |
