  Tasting Notes

The ’98 vintage was exemplary at Neil’s Polish Hill River Estate, and it shows in this wine.
Immediately on the bouquet there is an amazing array of citrus flavors with grapefruit, lemon and lime all being apparent. This is a highly perfumed and floral wine.
The palate see more of the same fruits, just a little juicier, with the addition of some sweetness, no doubt emanating from the ripeness of the fruit. It is not a lightweight wine, but it runs freely over the tongue and tingles the back of the palate. Part of this tingle can be attributed to the acid which at this early stage is crisp and highly pronounced.
Young Riesling of this quality is so drinkable as soon as it is bottled and will remain fresh and exuberant for another 12-18 months. Around this time the wine will start to close up and then take at least 5, possibly 10 years to open up and develop the lovely toast and honey characters so prized in Clare Valley premium aged Riesling.
Right now the wine is superb with something equally raw and untamed. Freshly shucked oysters served simply with a twist of the pepper grinder and a squeeze of lime...absolutely sublime.
