There is never any mucking about from the boys at Pikes. Year in, year out they amaze with generous, rich and fleshy wines that always seem to represent extremely good value. This new release continues the story.
One sniff and you get a full blast of plums, blueberries and raspberries. Supporting the fruit characters are some chocolate and mocha notes, with just a hint of white pepper. On the palate the wine is juicy with blueberry notes the most prominent of the fruit flavors. At the back of the palate there are plenty of firm tannins that give a real definition to the wine.
The wine is drinking well now.. If you still prefer a totally mellow drop, the wine would be best suited for short to medium term cellaring, anywhere up to 6 years. The wine will probably hold up well for many years after this if you really prefer an older wine.
The robust style of is suited to robust food. |
