Bordeaux Blends |
| This wine grows in stature each year. Seemingly as the vines mature this Bordeaux style blend has become one of the outstanding wines produced anywhere in the country. Whilst the 1994 release was a fabulous wine this vintage is superior in virtually all aspects...... |

Cabernet Sauvignon |
| The climate at Pat Carmody's Sunbury vineyard is cool, and some would say too cool to ripen Cabernet Sauvignon. With careful viticultural practices such as heavy pruning and training of vines for maximum solar exposure Pat can get his grapes to ripen and display a lovely complex array of flavors...... |

| Recently I was privileged to be at a tasting of all the vintages of Shiraz made by Pat Carmody at Craiglee; from Pat's 1979 right through to a 1997 barrel sample. The 1995 holds a place amongst the finest...... |

FRANKLAND, GREAT SOUTHERN |
| The traditional home of Shiraz in Australia, the Barossa has been well and truly challenged by an array of cooler climate regions where intensely fruity wines can be produced. The Lower Great Southern is one of the regions, and Judi Cullam and Barrie Smith lead the way with this wonderful wine which has been remarkably consistent since the first vintage was released...... |

POLISH HILL RIVER, CLARE VALLEY |

| Neil Pike doesn’t select "Reserve" wines. He lets the wine tell him if it warrants extra special treatment. He tastes and re-tastes various vats as the wine is fermenting, and in the case of the Shiraz only the very finest, most intensely flavored fruit will then be put into a high percentage of new oak and undergo barrel maturation for a greatly extended period...... |

NURIOOTPA, BAROSSA VALLEY |
| This wine is now firmly established as one of the great Shiraz wines Australia produces. Consistency over the last five vintages has taken the reputation of the "Command" right to the top echelon. This vintage has a lot to live up to given recent releases. I think it surpasses the most recent vintages and could well be the best wine yet released under this label...... |

MCLAREN VALE/COONAWARRA |

| Joe Grilli releases wines under the "Joseph" label only if it is very special. He searches for small parcels of exquisite fruit to be included in this wine. Not merely content to purchase the fruit, he lays out the bunches after picking and allows the fruit to ripen even further on racks. And when the wine is complete it has a depth of fruit that is simply quite remarkable...... |

WATERVALE, CLARE VALLEY |
| The Clare Valley has long been regarded primarily as a great white wine region, no doubt due to the success of Riesling. In recent years there has been an upsurge in the respect and status afforded to the red wine produced in the valley. Stephanie Toole at Mount Horrocks has been at the forefront of this movement and this wine is her finest red release to date...... |

Bordeaux Blends |
| This wine has more affinity with Bordeaux than Australia, which is not surprising for Garry Farr, given his French leanings. But then Geelong has conditions more similar to Bordeaux than the warmer climate regions of Australia...... |
