Australia, Still Hot 2006 Grosset "Watervale" Riesling 90 pts |
| Comment: |
The 2006 Dry Riesling “Watervale” offers an earthy, slate/mineral nose intermixed with floral and citrus aromas. On the palate it is medium-bodied, crisp, dry and vibrant leading to a long finish. It can be enjoyed now with oysters and clams but will likely age for a decade in the manner of a top German Riesling. |

Light straw. Wound-up nose unfolds slowly to reveal citrus pith and mineral scents along with pungent herb and floral qualities. Crisp lemon, lime and quince flavors display striking energy and clarity, and gain in flesh as the wine opens in the glass. Finishes with sweeter orange and melon character and impressive persistence. This should age nicely. 91+ Points |

"Dry, with brilliant pear and pineapple fruit, hinting at woody notes as the finish persists against crisp acidity. Drink now through 2014. 250 cases imported. 90 points" |

"Concentrated scents of lime zest follow through in this wine's flavor. It's tight and compacted, finely balanced between honey and lemongrass. It finishes clean, with a lot of mineral flavor that should develop with eight to ten years of age". 91 Points |

“Grosset's 2006 Watervale Riesling and 2006 Polish Hill Riesling easily maintain this super vigneron's towering status with the variety. They are delicate, intensely flavoured wines with lemon citrus and mineral nuances.” |

“Jeff Grosset shows more fastidious attention to detail than anyone we have ever met, and the result every year is two of the most suave Rieslings to be fashioned anywhere on earth. We were privileged to be the first in the world to taste the bottled '06 Grossets and we are pleased to announce that Jeff's loyal audience across the world will be delighted with his follow-ons to the beautiful 2005's. The '06 Watervale cuvée is like a white-knuckle ride over minerally river stones with white-water lemon juice cascading on every side. It's perfectly poised and searingly persistent. The Grosset Polish Hill Riesling 2006 is one for the cellar, with an even more floral bouquet, more lime juice and a more brow-furrowingly serious palate. There is a lot of joy in owning these wines, let alone drinking them. They look and feel great - like serious works of art, now immaculately set off for the first time with a gold-embossed Screw Cap. Pure class.” |

92pts “In 2006, the Watervale cuvee has emerged in an elegant form, aromas are bright and pure riesling, sweet ripe lime blossom and musky florals, already offering some enduring characters with less of the transient, estery distractions that most young aromatic whites carry on release. The palate is succulent and spritely with gentle fine mineral cut, some more musk here too, zesty and balanced: it is very approachable and softly textured. Pure lime citrus and a wave of tropical fruits carry sizzling acidity, nicely wrapped beneath the flesh. A terrific foil for Asian cuisines.” |
