2005 Elderton Shiraz
94pts The 2005 Shiraz “Nurioopta” is purple/black with a brooding nose of smoke, tar, licorice, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. 91pts The 2005 Old Vines Grenache is purple colored with a spicy nose of black cherry, black raspberry and chocolate. Ripe, sweet, and full-bodied to the point of opulence, it has a velvety texture, layers of flavor and 3-4 years of aging potential. Drink this lengthy Grenache through 2020. 92pts “Tir na N’og, an Irish term meaning “land of the youth,” has produced a blockbuster 2004 Grenache Old Vines boasting beautiful sweet black raspberry and cherry fruit intermixed with notions of flowers, licorice, and pepper. The wine is full-bodied with fabulous fruit purity, an expansive, opulent texture, and a whoppingly long finish. In spite of its richness, purity, and size, it possesses remarkable elegance. 2003 Tir na N’og ‘Old Vines’ Grenache
94pts A fabulous new offering from Australia, this brilliant Grenache carries lofty alcohol, but there is not a trace of heat because of the wine’s extraordinary concentration. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by gorgeous aromas and flavors of flowers interwoven with raspberries, kirsch liqueur, licorice, and spicy pepper. 2005 Hewitson "Miss Harry" Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre
90pts Inky violet. Expressive, perfumed nose displays a full range of dark fruit and baking spice scents, along with suave mocha and dried flowers. Chewy cherry and dark berry flavors offer impressive depth and vivacity. Supple tannins firm up with air and carry into the long, spicy finish. This needs patience. 2007 Frankland Estate "Isolation Ridge" Riesling
Cullam and Barrie Smith have unleashed yet another world class “bone dry” Riesling from their prized “Isolation Ridge” vineyard, arguably the remotest vineyard site in the world. This wine is beautifully pure and aromatic with citrus and lime notes wafting from the glass, with hints of earth and dust following. The wine has freakish structure and precision. An immensely complex and pleasurable wine, with a world of possibilities when it comes to food pairings.
2006 Rutherglen Estates "The Alliance" Marsanne Viognier
The Alliance” is a blend of 70% Marsanne and 30% Viognier that is a perfect union of varieties that share a common heritage and show a natural affinity for each other. All the fruit is sourced from Rutherglen Estates hillside vineyards. Marsanne provides the fresh, fruity and citrus backbone of the wine, with Viognier adding richness and intensity to both the palate and the nose. Lemon butter, flint and mineral notes are complemented by white blossom and honeysuckle, and some apricot kernel characters. A delicious wine with great freshness, aromatic strength and length of flavor.
