This is a very exciting Producer, with plenty of potential. I have known Bill Ireland for quite a few years, and he and his business partner Al Gillespie have planned this project well, and with great patience. Stylistically, the vineyard offers fruit that delivers something quite distinct in the Margaret River context. Much has to do with the warmer conditions experienced at Karridale. White varieties reach optimum ripeness with relative ease, so they get well-defined flavors. With reds, and Shiraz in particular, they get really concentrated dark fruit flavors, as well as wonderfully developed secondary characters, without an over-reliance on new oak. As the vines age, the wines should deliver even more.
